GARY ENGLUND, JD, CFP, CLU, ChFC, AEP, CLTC, RHU, REBC, CDFA, CAP

Gary is the instructor for our Fundamentals and Insurance modules.

Below is additional information about Gary that may be important to you.

What is his day job?
Gary heads a financial services firm in Tampa, Florida. For nearly thirty-five years he has provided financial planning and asset management assistance to individuals, families and businesses. He has also taught insurance and estate planning classes for more than thirty years.

What makes his background unique?

Gary has dedicated himself to financial education throughout his career in financial planning. After finishing law school and completing the bar exam he chose a career in financial services, but never lost his desire to learn. In addition to earning his CFP® certification in 1992 (on one of the earliest comprehensive tests given) and a Master’s degree in financial services, Gary has earned eight additional industry designations (CLU, ChFC, AEP, CLTC, RHU, REBC, CDFA, and CAP). Gary has taught three different course modules during the 11 years he has taught in registered programs, including Fundamentals, Insurance Planning and Estate Planning. He has a distinguished record of service to the industry, including participating in volunteer opportunities with the CFP Board since 1994. From 2005 through 2008 Gary was a member of the CFP Board of Standards’ Council on Examinations, serving as Chair in 2008.

What does he have to share with students?

Gary has an inexhaustible passion for making the classroom a place for fun as well as learning. Armed with a sharp wit and a dry sense of humor, he is able to make even mundane material come to life. Gary says, “My first year of law school I had a professor whose boorish, intimidating style was the quintessential Paper Chase experience. While I loathed that professor, I should thank him today for teaching me so much about how NOT to run a classroom. I believe those lessons have paid significant dividends for my students.” As with all members of The BOE Institute, his ability to integrate practical applications with required course learning offers the students not only the tools to pass an exam, but to better serve the interests of their clients as well.

What are his outside interests?

As a parent of two children family pursuits often dictate much of Gary’s free time. Over the years he considers himself fortunate to travel frequently; he was even once a travel correspondent for a major newspaper. Offering Gary an airline ticket to a great destination evokes a response similar to Pavlov’s dog. This love of travel led to an online business Gary started 15 years ago which sells travel-themed novelty items. Gary is also a sports fanatic, never having lost his love for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers or the Minnesota professional sports teams he grew up following.
